In all chaos there is a cosmos. In all disorder a secret order. Carl Jung
What does
it mean to
go beyond?
Life is struggle. A gauntlet, a set of trials
and challenges to be overcome. The most
difficult to pass are the ones within.
The trials of nurturing your mind, body and soul.
One must triumph against these hardships to
evolve and surpass your old self.
So what is
it about?
I see it as a reflection of the self.
A tale of the human condition.
A journey of self discovery.
A story about: fate, love, fear, hate, joy, vision, sorrow, laughter, pain, harmony, space, time, humanity, evolution, growth, change,
loss, acceptance and life ad infinitum.
A story about a something trying to be a
somebody making its way through the
mad world we call home.
What is it
to me?
It is the very essence of me
An ode to Creating,
Observing, Thinking,
Changing, Growing,
Evolving

A certain point of view
The open-ended nature allows for multiple perspectives and interpretations. The audience can create many stories regardless of the artist's intention and accompanying writing.

Not my forte
Each work is paired with a body of text.
This text ranges from topical discussion, conversation, essay like ramblings, love letters, food for thought and words of wisdom.
By no stretch are they definitive meanings of the work, but my own interpretation at time of creation and writing. They compliment each other - giving context to one another and insight to my mind.
Writing isn’t my thing so I found it quite difficult not to have it dissolve into word salad despite being walking word salad.

Ernest Hemingway
Evolution
Appearances can be deceiving. Though many of these pieces seem easy to compose and create; a great deal of deliberation, thinking and appraisal is used to determine the quality of the aesthetics and total composition of the piece and how it interreacts
with the set. They are all works in progress, if the tone or feeling from the work is off or can be changed it will. A final product can
be completely remodeled if its aesthetics are wrong, if the meaning isn’t being portrayed properly. None of them are safe from the creator’s scornful eye. [Estimated 3 to +9 variations of each peice have been made]

Destiny Manifest
A requirement for this project was to create a physical artifact of any nature, medium and craft. I chose to make a book as I belived it to be the proper course of action for this kind of work. I have had previous experience with making a book only once and that was an experience and a half so this was going to be bumpy ride.

Golden threads
Each work is like a chapter of someone's life. (mine perhaps)
A window into their mind.
Rather than being obtuse and relying on the audience to put it together. They already relate to each other as one big family.
It helps literallybind the works together.

Flow pages
Momments of pause and calm between the onslaught of images and text
They offer ideas and food for thought to the reader

Experimentation and development

Layout development
Seeing it laid out physically allowed me to realize some
desperate changes to the flow of the book, work titles and
grammatical errors I would have otherwise missed.

Font testing
I wanted a strong serif font to strengthen the cultured art angle, to make it look a bit more serious and composed.

Linotype Didot
Its bold, fresh, funky, and French. A particular energy of fun is emanating from this fonts peculiar and strong body work. Its reminiscent of the classic fashion magazine Vogue and brands like Gucci - artsy yet refined. Timeless yet fresh.

Paper stock
From the options shown I chose the 100gsm uncoated. Its a standard and versatile weight used in most if not all books. At larger sizes it may see a little floppy. The gloss didn’t have the right feeling compared to the uncoated, giving it a sterile look. It did however prevent sweat marks

cover design
I was inspired by the formalitiy and timelessness of The New Yorker covers and the chic fashion of vouge and the sort.
Fancy.
