Everyone should have a hero, some less so than others.
Nambo is the unofficial completely unauthorized,
copyright infringing, borderline theft, bastard spawn
of the epitome of Australian surf culture known as
Mambo. In the words of the Oscar Wilde: “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay
to greatness”

The idea for the Nambo’s letterform is the product of multiple themes floating around my head at the time of its conception- such thoughts include retro aesthetics, metal type, car badges, Australian suburbs, the beach, and a favorite artist of mine; Reg Mombasa better known as Mambo. Each thought came together to form a base for nambo and was funneled through the way I draw letters.
During primary school, we used English books to help us develop our writing skills and it seems to had quite the effect as seen with the bowls and the x-heights, I find it easier to draw it on regular lined paper than grid paper because that’s where the initial foundation was laid.

I envision nambo as embodying the Australian spirit. The laidback form, in-your-face size, easy-going attitude, and being able to get the job done despite major character flaws; are all within the body of a young adult trying to make their way through the world.
